Kevin's Answers
You asked:
"I wonder how often you use animations when you build PowerPoint presentations. What do you think of the usefulness of these tools?"
Kevin’s Answer:
PowerPoint gives us the ability to "build" a visual one bullet, step, or section at a time. This can be done on a preset time sequence, or more frequently with another click of the mouse by the presenter. This is a great feature! We can provide information or new points one at a time when needed to be more persuasive or otherwise fit into our presentation goals more effectively.
Each version of PowerPoint has given us more animation tools. We can slide in, type in, flip in, or spin in our new points. We can adjust the speed at which they type, spin, appear or fade. We can attach sound to their arrival, and many other effects.
My advice is to open one of your presentations, save it as a new file and play with the animation features on your slides. Try everything! Have twenty minutes of fun! Then forget about 85% of these effects.
If you want to build or reveal the points on your slides as you go, rather than having all of them available from the start, use the simplest of these options. Remember that PowerPoint is a visual aid to you as the presenter. You don’t want your animations outshining, overpowering, or worst of all, distracting from your message.
