There is some consensus that pictures about concrete objects and events are understood
more quickly, while words are favored when depth and clarity of comprehension are
demanded, such as communicating abstract ideas. But this isn't enough to decide between
the two.
A rule that could be applied to information in general just doesn't exist. What has
come through in many studies is that combinations of pictures and words are more effective
