Kevin's Answers
You Asked:
“What are the most important skills needed to make a successful presentation?”
Kevin’s Answer
"The purpose of any talk is to create action - of the mind, of the body, or both." - Kevin Eikenberry
We present for a variety of reasons.
- To express a point of view
- To convince
- To persuade
- To sell
- To teach
- To disseminate information
We are asked, or chose to present to a group, small or large, for one of the reasons above. Regardless of our goal, we want to be clear and effective in presenting our material. The problem is it is hard! And in many cases, it scares us to death! In any case, you have to give that talk! Here are some skills required for highly effective presentations:
- Gaining attention
- Building rapport
- Establishing credibility
- Maintaining interest
- Stimulating action
- Communicating clearly
- Closing convincingly and memorably
There are many ways to improve these skills. See our related question, "How do I improve my presentation skills?" for some ideas!
